About This Project

A digital companion to Adams' Synchronological Chart

— ~ —

In 1871, Sebastian C. Adams published the Synchronological Chart of Universal History — twenty-three feet of paper that compress world history from the Creation to the late nineteenth century into a single continuous visual timeline. It was revised in 1881 and became one of the most widely distributed wall charts in American history.

This companion app lets you explore the entire chart in high resolution, search its 13,000+ transcribed entries by name, date, nation, or event, and zoom directly to any point on the timeline. It is a free companion to the book Adams' Chart of History: The Complete Transcription, published by Heritage Chronology Press.

The Book

Adams' Chart of History: The Complete Transcription is the first complete, annotated transcription of every name, date, and event on Adams' 1881 chart. The book identifies and corrects Adams' original errors, provides modern historical context, and includes a comprehensive index making the chart's contents searchable for the first time in its 150-year history.
